Outrunning Grief & Depression

Hello Reader,

Started The Month at The Ultimate Race Expo

I had the privilege of being a sponsor and a presenter at the Inaugural Ultimate Race Expo in Dayton, OH. Thanks to everyone that stopped by and said hello. The presentation on my 5 pillars of training was received well. If you missed it, they have a Cincinnati event coming up on June 22, 2025, at the MadTree Oakley Taproom, Barrel Room from 1-4 PM.

Coach’s June Tip

As the weather begins to get warmer, you may feel that you are losing fitness. It’s not you, it is the heat. Make sure you are properly hydrating and remain consistent through the summer, and you will see the rewards in the fall. What does that look like?

  • Slowing down is allowed. It is even encouraged. Especially on those days that are >80 F, it is not uncommon to slow down 2-3 minutes/mile. The heat adds stress to the body.
  • Utilize the treadmill. Just like extreme cold, extreme heat can be dangerous. I actually think heat is worse as the mind starts to play tricks and underestimates the danger.
  • HYDRATE! I can’t say this enough, take in plenty of fluids during the run and the first few hours after. This is extra important on those long run days.
  • Don’t be afraid to stop. Sometimes the heat gets the best of us. Don’t be afraid to stop and attack again another day,
